So what is an MOT test?

An MOT test is a compulsory annual inspection of your vehicle, carried out by a trained mechanic, to check the safety and exhaust emissions to ensure it is in a roadworthy condition and meets Ministry of Transport standards. 

During an MOT test we will check the following areas of your vehicle:

• Main body & structure - Excessive corrosion or damage? Is the tow bar fitted correctly and in acceptable condition?
• Fuel system - Any leaks? Does the fuel cap seal correctly?
• Emmisions - Does it meet the legal requirement?
• Exhaust system - Is it secure and in acceptable condition - with no leakage or excessive noise?
• Seat belts - Correct type, condition and operation? Are all compulsory seat belts in place?
• Seats - Are they secure?
• Doors - Do they close securely? Open from both sides?
• Vehicle interior and exterior - in acceptable condition?
• Mirrors - Is the minimum number met? Good condition/security?
• Boot/Tailgate - Secure in the closed position?
• Brakes - Good condition? Acceptable operation and performance?
• Tyres/wheels - Good condition? Secure? Correct size/type and tread depth?
• Registration plates - Acceptable condition? Correct colour and correctly formed and spaced characters?
• Lights - Good condition?  Correct headlamp aim?
• Bonnet - Does it close securely?
• Windscreen wipers - Functioning correctly?
• Horn - Working correctly? Is it the correct type?
• Steering/suspension - Good condition and operation?
• Vehicle Identification number

At the end of your MOT you will have a detailed test sheet outling the work that needs done (if any) in order for your vehicle to pass it's MOT test.  

No work will carried out on the car without your prior consent, and if requested we can provide you with a no obligation quote for the work that needs done. 

Once your vehicle has passed its MOT test we will issue you with an MOT test certificate, a copy of the MOT failure certificate (if appropriate) and a fully itemised invoice.
